I've started building wooden surfboards, because I've missed surfing so badly while I was landlocked in Germany, years ago. And I also wanted to see if it's possible to build a surfboard only from natural materials. In the beginning I worked in my flat in Berlin, later I rented a workshop. When I moved into my wooden truck, I worked in and in front of it,
so basically on the road.
I offered the boards under the name Bartés Surfwood. But by now I stopped building wooden surfboards, because it wasn't profitable for me. Building such complex structures in and in front of a van is a big challenge. You have to deal with many parameters like space, temperature, humidity, etc. - that in the end it takes too much time for a profitable board.
Below you can browse through some of my boards (newest first) with many different types of wood.
